Fistful of Gamma Rays

Concept art exercises: warrior ladies with armor that isn’t stupid.

These draw heavily from historical armor references, though none are actually historically accurate. From the top left, clockwise:

1.) That vest she’s wearing is supposed to be a brigandine, although my drawing doesn’t make it terribly clear. She’s supposed to be a mounted archer, or maybe a chariot archer.

2.) Mirror armor is something that’s been around for a long time. According to Wikipedia, in addition to keeping your insides intact, the round mirrors were supposed to ward off malicious supernatural influence. There’s a pretty good hook for a story in a fantasy setting there.

3.) This lady is probably heavy infantry. I imagine she knows what to do with a halberd. The kettle hat was an actual thing.

4.) This sticks pretty faithfully to some of the medieval representations of knights I found, although I’m not totally sure how appropriate that leg armor is to the rest of it.
